51. #9 UCF 73, #8 VCU 58 (Round of 64)

It took nearly seven minutes for the Knights to get on the board, but once they got going, they made quick work of the Rams. After VCU tied the game, the Knights used a 19-0 run across both halves to take control of the game. Tacko Fall (13 points, 18 rebounds, 5 blocks) was a machine all game long and the Knights shot (49%) and defended well, also hitting 64% of their 3-pointers. VCU didn’t have an answer for Fall and doomed themselves with that long offensive drought, falling behind by way too much to be able to make a comeback.

50. #1 Gonzaga 83, #9 Baylor 71 (Round of 32)

The game went back and forth early, but the Bulldogs took control of this game pretty quickly and never let go. Their halftime lead was 16 points and the Bears were never closer than five points after the 13:00 mark of the first half. Gonzaga shot 54.4% and outrebounded the Bears. Brandon Clarke erupted for 36 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks and his flashy play was on display all game. Baylor’s 10-0 run to open the second half wasn’t enough as Gonzaga turned up the heat once more, denying the Bears a chance at the upset win. The Bears simply couldn’t make enough long-range shots and had no answer for Clarke.

49. #10 Minnesota 86, #7 Louisville 76 (Round of 64)

Golden Gophers head coach Richard Pitino knocked out his father’s former program in an impressive victory. Minnesota shot 50% from the field and led by 5 at the half before securing their lead in the second half. The Golden Gophers finally hit their 3-pointers and had all of their starters in double-digits, led by 24 points and 8 rebounds from Gabe Kalscheur. Christen Cunningham scored 22 points and Jordan Nwora had a double-double for the Cardinals. Louisville didn’t shoot poorly, but just couldn’t claw back into the game in the second half, trailing by as many as 19 points in the final ten minutes.
