12. Northern Iowa’s half-court shocker (2016)

A missed free throw with about 12 seconds left gave Texas new life. Northern Iowa led the No. 6 seeded Longhorns 72-70, but Texas wasn’t about to roll over.

Driving down the lane with poise, the Longhorns tied the game with a nifty floater. It seemed like the game was destined for overtime, but Paul Jesperson had other plans.

Though this didn’t quite spark an impressive run the like the Panthers had years before, it was still one of the most memorable shots in tournament history just because of its difficulty. And it was like Jesperson had a free shot, the Longhorns ran a press after their game-tying make and made it difficult for the Panthers to get an open look.

With 2.7 seconds left, the inbounder found Jesperson just before half court, he took a dribble to his left to escape two defenders and launched a prayer which was answered by the backboard and chaos ensued.

They don’t call it March Madness for no reason.
