20. Georgia Tech shocks USC in 0.8 seconds (1992)

Believe it or not, but March Madness goes back decades and decades. The sport really grew in popularity back in 1979 with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird squaring off for the national title, but it picked up recognition for being a wild month for college basketball shortly thereafter.

Back in 1992, fans got another taste of some madness with a buzzer-beater in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by Georgia Tech to top USC.

Let’s set the scene. The Trojans had just taken a 78-76 lead with 2.2 seconds left and a Georgia Tech inbounds pass was batted out of bounds near half court, wasting 1.4 seconds off the clock. Then, with 0.8 seconds left, the Yellow Jackets drew up a play for the win.

A catch and shoot by James Forrest shocked the No. 2 seed Trojans of USC.

All he had time to do was literally catch and put the ball in the air. He was able to contort his body and still made the perfect shot. Georgia Tech would go on to lose in the Sweet 16 the following weekend to Memphis State in overtime, but this will always be a classic.
