C Makhi Mitchell – Washington, D.C.

4-star | 6-foot-9 | 225 pounds | No. 66 overall

With Bruno Fernando, no longer in College Park, it is important for the Terps add depth to their frontcourt. Makhi Mitchell is the highest ranked prospect in Maryland’s recruiting class and should be a welcomed addition. The Woodrow Wilson High School standout has been receiving attention since his days on the AAU circuit. Mitchell is a product of the DC Premier AAU program, which he led to championship victory in 2018.

With that void to fill at the center position, Mitchell is in a great position to come right in and start for Mark Turgeon. He has a smooth inside and out game, which he utilizes to take advantage of mismatches. Mitchell also has the potential to be a fierce rim protector for Maryland. If he can fit that bill, it will certainly lighten the burden on Jalen Smith, who is a future pro prospect.

With the talent that Maryland already has in place, there will be pressure for Mitchell to succeed early on, but he appears to be prepared for the college level. Mitchell picked the Terps over other local schools like Towson and Georgetown, as well as rising programs Memphis and Georgia. If Mitchell is able to come in and produce at a high level, this Maryland team is going to be really dangerous.
