3. Penn

It’s been ten years since Steve Donahue led Cornell to the Sweet Sixteen and he’s looking to do similar damage in the Ivy League again. His Quakers made the NCAA Tournament in 2018, but the former Boston College coach has built a team that could fetch something more dangerous than a 16-seed.

The Quakers lose some talent, but return their top two scorers in seniors AJ Brodeur (17.6 ppg, 8.3 rpg) and Devon Goodman (13.9 ppg). They’ll get senior Ryan Betley back from injury and feature a pair of talented sophomores in Michael Wang and Bryce Washington. There are some solid pieces in their recruiting class, highlighted by 3-star big man Max Lorca-Lloyd. Harvard is going to be a force in the Ivy League next season, but this Penn team is a legitimate contender for another Tournament appearance, especially with all of the talent coming back.

A matchup with UCF awaits the Quakers at the Wooden Legacy, just the third Ivy League team selected for the event. With the experience and talent on this roster, these Quakers are a certain sleeper team and one that could surprise down in Anaheim. If Brodeur continues to develop as an offensive star and this Quakers squad can get a full season from Betley, then this team is going to be a force down the stretch. Don’t be shocked to see them hang tough if they scorer a matchup with Arizona and/or Providence in this tournament.
