Point Guard

Minutes Allocated (40 total): Tre Jones (32), Jordan Goldwire (8)

Point guard for Duke is going to be a position where we see only two players get minutes next season. The player getting a majority of those minutes is going to be sophomore, Tre Jones.

Jones averaged 34.2 minutes per game over the course of the 2018-19 season, but due to the fact that we saw some significant improvement out of Jordan Goldwire late in the season, Jones may get a couple minutes less to give Goldwire some time on the court as well.

Goldwire is tremendous on the defensive end and he was a major reason Duke came back after being down 23 points with less than 10 minutes to go against Louisville in February, tying the largest comeback against a ranked team in Division I history.

In this game as well as the game against North Carolina in the ACC Tournament semi-finals, Goldwire came up clutch in both of these games and had it not been for him, there is a good chance the Blue Devils would have lost each of them.

His offense is still a work in progress but his court vision and passing makes up for his lack of shooting and confidence at the rim. Goldwire had only 0.3 turnovers per game last season while playing 6.5 minutes per game.

Tre Jones is also a player you can count on to not turn the ball over while it is in his hands. Jones had the third best assist-to-turnover ratio in Division I College Basketball last season, as he held a 3.62 ratio.

Jones is a very solid all around player and if he manages to work on his jumper, specifically his three-point shot, he will be absolutely unstoppable next season.

Point guard is a position which Duke can be very solid at next season if Jones and Goldwire can improve on a couple blemishes they have in their game.
