NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking five-star 2020 G Cade Cunningham’s final 5 teams
3. Oklahoma State University
Coming in at third on our list of best fits out of Cade Cunningham’s final five, we have the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Cowboys have struggled in recent years, as they have failed to make the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two seasons and they haven’t won a game in the tournament since 2009.
This being said, Oklahoma State clearly is one of the less successful teams on Cunningham’s final five list, but the Cowboys have one thing that Florida and Washington do not. The Cowboys have a Top-100 player in the Class of 2020 committed.
Davonte Davis who is currently ranked 71st in ESPN’s Top-100, committed to Oklahoma State back in early December and because of this, the Cowboys are currently in a better spot than both the Gators and Huskies.
It is likely fair to assume that the Gators and maybe Washington wind up with better recruiting classes once all is said and done, but at this moment in time it appears as if Oklahoma State might be a better fit simply because of that certainty.
However, this is one of about two plus sides about Cunningham committing to be a Cowboy. The other positive is that he would get a chance to play in the Big 12 which has emerged as one of the best conferences in college basketball as of late.
With teams like Kansas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Houston, West Virginia, TCU, Kansas State, Texas and some others having a lot of recent success, the XII has challenged the ACC for the best conference in college basketball.
What this means for Cunningham is that if he succeeds and does well against XII opponents, it would show NBA scouts that he is legit because he would be putting up those numbers against other players who will be drafted.
With all this being said, Oklahoma State surely isn’t a bad choice for Cade Cunningham, but it isn’t the best on his list of five.
