Michigan’s other current offers

Jaemyn Brakefield – PF – No. 33

Jaemyn Brakefield was only offered by Michigan on the final day of July. As a result, there is clearly interest but the talented power forward is yet to cut his list. As a result, it is hard to say exactly where the Wolverines stand in this recruitment. Brakefield is starting to plan more of his official visits and the coaching staff has to be hoping he takes a trip to Ann Arbor. He is a smooth power forward at 6-foot-8 with the abilities to create for himself and rebound at a high rate. Brakefield competed alongside several other talented recruits while averaging 15.9 points (.565/.312/.763), 6.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game for Phenom University (WI) on the EYBL circuit. Brakefield has received plenty of offers and Kentucky currently holds all three crystal ball predictions for his commitment.

Micah Peavy – SF – No. 46

Micah Peavy is a top-50 wing that was previously offered by Coach Beilein. Recent developments, though, indicate that Oregon, Texas Tech, Texas, and TCU are the schools prioritizing Peavy. The Red Raiders, in particular, hold all five crystal ball predictions. It seems as though the Wolverines are out of this recruiting battle.

Zach Loveday – C – No. 109

Even though Zach Loveday was offered by Michigan a long time ago, the program has remained interested under both coaches. He is a highly-talented center at 6-foot-11 with the ability to impact games in many ways. It was reported that Coach Howard was in attendance for his games at the Adidas Summer Championships so the Wolverines could be in solid shape to potentially land this commitment. Loveday is not Michigan’s most highly-rated big man target, but he would still be a solid snag. Others involved include Louisville and Indiana.

Carlos “Scooby” Johnson – SF – No. 120

As the lowest-rated player currently on Michigan’s radar, it is hard to say exactly how interested the coaching staff is. Carlos “Scooby” Johnson was offered while Coach Beilein was the leader of the Wolverines and it seems as though Coach Howard has his sights set on higher-ranked combo forwards. With that said, though, Johnson is fresh off several great performances at Peach Jam and Michigan could emerge as one of the favorites to land him if the program misses on some of their other top targets. The in-state talent does a little bit of everything on the floor as a swiss-army-knife wing. Other players involved include Missouri, Butler, and Michigan State.

That concludes this look at Michigan basketball’s current recruiting efforts. It certainly feels as though Coach Howard is succeeding in attracting interest from several of the top players in the 2020 class. Now, though, the Wolverines will have to focus on furthering those relationships and securing commitments. Zeb Jackson will not be alone in their class for long – commits are coming.
