Michigan Wolverines

There are a lot of moving parts with first-year head coach Juwan Howard and the Wolverines. He’s been linked to plenty of top-50 prospects in the 2020 recruiting class besides Coleman, including Isaiah Todd and Lance Ware. He’s likely to land 1-2 of them to jumpstart the new era, especially if the team can have a strong start. Although, it’s not very likely that they’ll be able to take him away from ACC land.

Something else to consider is the development of the underclassmen forwards already on the roster. Former four-star forwards Brandon Johns Jr. and Colin Castleton will have more opportunities to prove themselves after rough freshmen campaigns. But Coleman would likely play over them if he chooses the Big Ten program. This could be a battle of who commits first, so Michigan should be hoping for an earlier commitment from this recruit.

Ohio State Buckeyes

It’s setting up to be a nice upcoming season for Ohio State, having a solid core of returning players combined with a top-15 recruiting class. In it is a trio of top-50 overall prospects, including forwards EJ Lidell and Alonzo Gaffney. Add returning junior forward Kyle Young and sit-out transfers Justice Sueing (14.1 ppg and 5.7 rpg in two seasons at Cal) and you have an already strong recruiting class.

Looking at Holtmann’s track record with versatile forwards such as previous Big Ten Player of the Year Keita Bates-Diop, it’s understandable why a player like Coleman would have legit interest in the program. But of all of the finalists, the Buckeyes present the worst chance at immediate playing time (barring unexpected departures a year from now) for him.

Duke is viewed as the favorite to land Coleman, who will become an impact forward in NCAA Basketball. But the other 12 ACC programs are hoping he ends up in the Big Ten to avoid having to deal with him on a regular basis. Could the rich get richer with the Blue Devils landing him? Or is a surprise decision coming in the future with this talented prospect?
