Duke Blue Devils

Whether a recruit is from California, Texas, or Maine, if Duke wants them, they’ll be a finalist for that said recruit. That’s where we are with Williams, who has Duke among the list of options. It makes sense always, considering that Coach K and company just had three top-10 picks in the 2019 NBA Draft.

And with four incoming freshmen ranked in the top-35 overall in the 2019 recruiting class, don’t be surprised if another few Blue Devil players get picked in the 2020 draft. The key guy is Wendell Moore, the current projected starting wing. And while there’s still hope that Joey Baker can get on the court this upcoming season, he’s not a threat over guys like Williams possibly coming in.

Duke already has a couple of five-star commits in the 2020 class, with point guard Jeremy Roach and 6’8 small forward Jalen Johnson on board. Where things get interesting is that both Johnson and Williams are almost similar players in terms of skillset. The Blue Devils could technically start them both at the small and power forward positions, although there will be pressure on them to land a massive center prospect.

That’s why I think Duke has close to no shot at landing Williams. I’m sure he’s not afraid of competition but why volunteer to go to a situation where hell have to play out of position much of the time? The wing spot is just about wide open with the other six spots and being from California, it’s already a tough ask to have him go to the other side of the country.

The Blue Devils are probably going harder after true bigs such as Henry Coleman, Mark Williams and Walker Kessler. Look for them to be more likely to land any of them than Williams at this point.
