USC Trojans

One of the biggest recruiting stories has been how well USC head coach Andy Enfield has done landing prospects such as Isaiah Mobley and Onyeka Okongwu in the recent class. He also got a couple of solid grad transfers that should keep them viable for the upcoming season.

It’ll be interesting as well to see who remains after next season, including top-50 small forward Max Agbonkpolo. He and Williams would be an okay fit but the wing position is far from open. There’s also a question as to how the roster might focus completely on the frontcourt with No. 1 class of 2020 recruit Evan Mobley having recently committed to play with his father, an assistant on the coaching staff. If his brother Isaiah decides to return for his sophomore season, the Trojans may operate from inside out, leaving Williams trying to find his role in the offense.

The backcourt also may be an issue if USC can’t get top-10 shooting guard recruit Joshua Christopher or top combo guard in the class Jalen Green. The depending on who else joins their 2020 class, the Trojans might not be as good as you may think even while having the No. 1 overall player.

The biggest problem may be Enfield’s lack of development with top players. Former five-star recruit Kevin Porter Jr. slipped to No. 30 overall in the recent NBA Draft, while Duke transfer Derrick Thornton seemed to have regressed during his time with the team. Is Williams comfortable putting his draft stock in the hands of this staff?

I don’t believe that either Los Angeles school is a good fit for Williams right now, while Duke already has their star 2020 small forward. As for Oregon, there hasn’t been any comments or news that even suggests they have a chance to land them. That leaves the two favorites (UNC and Stanford) along with Arizona. I’m doubtful that the Cardinal can beat out either program in the end, while the Tar Heels have both the opportunity at the small forward spot along with no possible investigations coming to make them the best possible option. If it’s about setting himself up for the 2020 NBA Draft, joining Coach Williams and company is the best bet for the younger Williams.

Prediction: Williams chooses UNC
