Marques Townes; Guard (Loyola-Chicago)

Club: UCAM Murcia (Spain)

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Marques Townes spent the first two years of his college career with Fairleigh Dickinson from 2014-2016 before transferring to Loyola Chicago to finish his career. Obtaining Townes was a huge win for the Ramblers.

Townes proved to be a valuable asset, giving good minutes and being very instrumental in allowing Loyola Chicago to run all the way to the Final Four in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. As a Rambler, Townes started in all 72 games he played in and averaged 13.1 ppg. His senior season, despite Loyola Chicago not performing quite as well, Townes was the best player in the MVC and received the honor of being named 2019 MVC Player of the Year.

Townes provides an excellent package of both offense and defense to a roster. In the 2018 NCAA Tournament, opposing players simply had very few options when trying to take Townes 1 on 1. On the other hand, he was hard to stop. He seldom made mistakes with the ball in his hands and proved to be too quick when moving around the arc to get open. Against Nevada in the Sweet 16 of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, he used speed to get open and hit a game-deciding three-point shot.

Townes will be a great addition for anyone he plays for throughout his career. He has signed to play for UCAM Murcia in Spain, according to the Loyola Chicago Men’s Basketball Twitter.
