ACC Basketball: Top returning player for each team in 2019-20
Wake Forest Demon Deacons — Brandon Childress
Wake Forest is by no means a contender, but Brandon Childress is back and will once again be the leader of this offense. The guard-heavy Demon Deacons may have lost forward Jaylen Hoard this offseason, but it still has its leading scorer and assists leader from 2018.
Childress has become a solid 3-point shooter in his time at Wake Forest, seeing quality minutes right away as a freshman. He worked his way up to being a dominant scorer by his junior year, averaging 14.7 points per game, and even added four assists, too. The 6-foot guard will be heavily relied on once again — maybe even more so without Hoard — this season.
Miami Hurricanes — Chris Lykes
When it came to competing against the ACC’s best, Miami could never really put it together. But it was never because of the Hurricanes’ 5-foot-7 point guard Chris Lykes, who, despite his size, always found a way to score.
Lykes nearly guided Miami to an upset on the road in North Carolina, scoring 27 points in an eventual 3-point overtime loss, and led the team with 16.2 points per game. With a very new look to its team, Lykes will be the veteran floor general, like many other players on this list, and the go-to scorer once again for The U.
