Boston College Eagles — Wynston Tabbs

In just his freshman season, Wynston Tabbs proved he’s capable of being a standout guard in a competitive ACC. There were times where the 6-foot-2 guard struggled with shooting — 32.1 percent from 3 — but growing pains are expected from a first-time player.

Tabbs suffered a knee injury on New Year’s Eve that held him out of all but three conference games last season, but Boston College finished 10-5 when he played, including an upset win over Florida State.

Nik Popovic will provide consistency in the paint, but Tabbs will be looked on to be both a floor general and to fill the scoring void left by Bowman.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets — Jose Alvarado

There’s few defensive, scrappy players that stood out last season more than Jose Alvarado. He’s an excellent defender inside Georgia Tech’s zone and, despite his scoring numbers slightly dropping, his percentages skyrocketed — 44.8 percent from field and 37 percent from 3, compared to 39.2 and 28.6 percent, respectively, his freshman year.

The Yellow Jackets are known for its stout defense and return a large percentage of its rotation from a season ago. Its offense should see improvements and Alvarado should be able to take that next step, shooting more and facilitating to Michael Devoe and the rest of the GT squad.
