NCAA Basketball: Ranking the nation’s 25 best home-court advantages

6) Michigan State – Breslin Student Events Center
Michigan State has been the model of consistency under head coach Tom Izzo, but that gets taken to another level when they play at the Breslin Center in front of the “Izzone” – the aptly named student section – and nearly 15,000 screaming fans.
Since the Breslin Center opened in 1989, the Spartans have won nearly 90 percent of their games there – over 30 percent better than they do away from East Lansing – which has helped them remain as one of the country’s elite programs and as the class of the Big Ten.
Given how dominant they are at home, you may be surprised to learn that the Spartans have not finished a season undefeated at the Breslin Center since 2008 but, in that time frame, they have only suffered more than two home defeats in three seasons. Even when Sparty had their worst season of the decade – the 20-15 season in 2016-17 – they only lost one game at home.
Since Izzo took over the program in 1995, he has guided the program to a 339-42 record at the Breslin Center. Most of those losses came early on in his tenure, too.
Also, a bit of history sits at the center of the Breslin Center. The court Michigan State used to play on is the same one they won the 2000 national championship on. Pretty cool, right?
