NCAA Basketball: 6 stars of mid-major backcourts for 2019-20 season
Anthony Lamb – Vermont Catamounts
Vermont has dominated the America East Conference since the turn of the century with seven tournament titles and 12 title game appearances since 2003, including the last four, and a big reason why is senior guard Anthony Lamb. The 6-6 Lamb from Rochester, NY has been a key cog for head coach John Becker since his freshman year when he averaged nearly 13 points and 5.5 rebounds. After a sophomore season that was derailed by a fractured foot, he still averaged 14 points and five rebounds in 18 games.
As a junior, Lamb catapulted himself into the national spotlight by throwing down 21 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and what helped is he improved his efficiency by improving both his field goal and three-point percentage by 4.7%. The work Lamb did from beyond the arc might have come as a bit of a surprise, last year he made and attempted more shots from deep than he had in his first two seasons combined, making 36.5% of them.
In his senior season, Lamb will assuredly be motivated to go out with a bang and based on the 30 points and six rebounds he averaged on the way to the America East tournament title, that can’t be good for the conference, but it will be for fans that want to see this start one more time.
