Iowa State Cyclones

Iowa State has been one of the nation’s most underrated programs for the last several years. The Cyclones have flown under-the-radar while receiving NCAA Tournament bids in seven of the last eight years. It is clear that the program has been quite successful and head coach Steve Prohm is now entering his fifth season as the leader of the team. The Cyclones’ recruiting has been quite solid with Prohm at the helm as a result of his incredible relationship-building. Iowa State is yet to land a 2020 commitment but they have made solid inroads with a number of their top targets, including Ben Carlson.

Iowa State has been heavily targeting the young power forward for some time and it is important to mention that Marc Carlson, Ben’s father, played for the program in the early 1990s. Additionally, the Des Moines Register noted that all three lead coaches for the Cyclones are in constant contact with Carlson. As already mentioned, Carlson can schematically fit with just about any program and he would surely find plenty of playing time with the Cyclones if he were to commit.

Iowa State has clearly built a long-standing relationship with Carlson and that could go a long way in this recruiting battle. The Cyclones are not necessarily regarded as a favorite to land his commitment but they are definitely a major contender (as is every squad in his final six). The coaching staff is bringing Carlson to campus for an unofficial visit on the weekend of Sept. 24. This will be his second-to-last visit of the fall and the program will be eager to further their pitch.
