Expectations for Frey in 2019-20

No one is expecting Montana State to make the NCAA tournament next year, especially in year one of the Danny Sprinkle era. The Bobcats elected to go in a new direction with their basketball coach primarily because they were not competitive enough in their own conference. It should not be out of the question for the Bobcats to be much more competitive this season and an overall winning record in the league would be a tremendous step in the right direction.

As for Frey and his individual season accomplishments. The guard is going to be relied upon for his usual output and is going to be expected to lead the team. Frey was a Second-Team All-Conference player a season ago. This season he should be honored with first-team accolades. Archrivals Montana lost some pieces and the defending player of the year Jordan Davis from Northern Colorado is no longer in the league. The door is open for Frey to secure the Player of the Year award in the conference. If Frey were to secure the award Montana State would need to have a great season and it would be the first time a Bobcat has won it since 2001.

Outside of Hall, the Bobcats return most of their scoring from a season ago. Putting the ball in the basket should not be a problem for coach Sprinkle and the Bobcats. The issue of questionable defense remains. Outside of Frey, the Bobcats do not have too many proven defenders. If Coach Sprinkle and his staff can get this team to play some defense they could rack up some wins, especially with their offensive ability.

It is more likely for the team to finish right around the .500 mark in the league with some upsets of the top teams on the ledger. The Bobcats are a team to watch for in the Big Sky in the coming years and should be a threat with Frey on board.
