Michigan Basketball: Analyzing Wolverines Big Ten schedule for 2019-20
By Adam Childs
3. Game at Madison Square Garden
Michigan and Rutgers had made plans to have a doubleheader at Madison Square Garden the wrestling team and the men’s basketball team. We knew it was coming we just didn’t know when for sure.
We now know it will be February 1 and should be a pretty fun day for both schools. The Wolverines have fond memories of playing in the Garden as the last time they were there, they carried off a trophy. Michigan won the Big Ten championship in convincing fashion in 2018 for the second consecutive title.
It seemed to bring the best out of the Wolverines and would propel them to a big run in the NCAA tournament where they made it to the national title game.
The only downside to playing this game in New York is that it took a home game away from the Wolverines. Besides that, it is a great chance to play in one of the most famous basketball arenas in the country and to do a day with the wrestling team is pretty cool.
Michigan just needs to make sure they don’t get caught up by the “bright lights” of New York and take care of business against a team they should be better than.
The Big Ten should be interesting this year and the Wolverines have a lot to look forward to. They got lucky not having long stretches of really tough games, but in return, they don’t have those same stretches against weaker opponents. The schedule will definitely test the Wolverines, but I am sure Coach Howard will have them ready.
