Oklahoma State Cowboys

Every season, there’s always a team or two who comes out of nowhere to land a mega recruiting class. The Memphis Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs are the examples from the 2019 classes, led by the No. 1 and 2 overall prospects. It’s early but if I had to pick which program does that in 2020, it would be the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Coming off a top-25 incoming recruiting class, Oklahoma State will still need to replace not only their top three returning scorers but also potentially guard Isaac Likekele, an under the radar NBA Draft prospect. There will be unknowns in the backcourt – unless the Cowboys can pull off the massive recruiting hauls of two players.

The team has been heavily linked to Cade Cunningham, ranked No. 2 overall in the 2020 class and is the top guard overall. His brother is on the coaching staff currently and although there are other heavyweights in play for him, all signs are pointing to Oklahoma State landing the five-star guard.

Once that officially happens, the odds are great that others will follow. Cunningham and Thompson would be must-see television in the Big 12 and if they can land a top-tier big man in the 2020 class as well (top-65 C Jaylin Williams is a top target), the Cowboys can rise to be a contender.

Assuming Cunningham does indeed land go to OSU (if they don’t then there’s no shot), then a strong case can be made that they’re the better option in the state of Oklahoma. Players sometimes want to blaze their own trail when picking schools and bringing back the Cowboys into national prominence could be a great selling point to Thompson.
