JaKobe Coles – Denton, TX

PF | 6-foot-7 | 230 lbs | No. 145

JaKobe Coles has been overshadowed a bit by some of his grassroots teammates over the past year but he is still one of the most talented power forwards in the country. Although he might not have put the same numbers as players such as Cade Cunningham and Greg Brown (both played on Texas Titans with him), it was clear that Coles was a glue-guy for that Nike EYBL team. Coles consistently performed well in every single game while showing why he is a highly sought-after player in the top 150 of this class.

While on the circuit, Coles competed in 18 total contests. He was never the top scoring option for the squad but saw plenty of playing time and made the most of it. Coles finished the summer with averages of 13.8 points (.503/.259/.692), 7.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 25 minutes per game.

Cole’s playing style is mostly below the rim. With that said, though, he has solid touch on his shots and finishes around the rim quite well. Additionally, he is a very strong passer and understands defensive positioning. It is unlikely that he will be a college star but he should be a very capable starter at the high-major level.

With regards to his recruitment, Coles recently finished up his official visit to South Bend. As a result, it is clear that Notre Dame is heavily involved. Coach Brey is clearly in the market to land at least one frontcourt prospects in this class and Coles fits the bill. In addition to Notre Dame, Coles included Butler, Loyola-Chicago, Texas A&M, Minnesota, and TCU in his final six. Butler is the only school with a crystal ball prediction for his commitment at the moment. There still seems to be plenty of time left in this battle though.

Cole’s trip to visit Notre Dame is a good sign for the program.
