Big Ten Basketball: Analyzing each program’s 2019 recruiting class
Iowa has reached the NCAA Tournament in four of the last six seasons. The Hawkeyes might not receive a ton of national attention but that is solid stretch of campaigns under the leadership of head coach Fran McCaffery. There is also a strong possibility that the program will once again push for an NCAA Tournament bid this season. Despite losing a few major contributors from last year this offseason, the Hawkeyes have a pair of recruits coming in that can hopefully find immediate roles.
Iowa’s two-man recruiting class might be ranked at just No. 73 in the nation but both athletes look poised to find playing time. Most notably, Pat McCaffery is extremely well-regarded as a four-star wing ranked at No. 86 in the class. The coach’s son is uniquely talented at 6-foot-8 and could even emerge as a starter right away. He brings plenty of size to the table, can create for others, and is already a strong perimeter shooter. McCaffery can play multiple positions and his versatility will lead to plenty of minutes.
The other incoming commit is Joe Touissant. Even though he was only ranked as the No. 293 overall prospect, there could be plenty of playing time available for him. This is because starting point guard Jordan Bohannon might miss this entire upcoming season due to hip surgery. If that occurs, then Touissant might not only emerge as a major reserve but even a potential starter. His addition has been heavily underrated this offseason and receiving playing time this season will only help his development.
