NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Must-snag commitments in the 2020 class
Texas needs Greg Brown
PF | 6-foot-9 | 195 lbs | No. 8 overall
Texas has been a dominant force on the recruiting trail for the last several years. Even though the Longhorns have not experienced a ton of success on the court, head coach Shaka Smart has consistently landed top-tier commitments. Texas is yet to secure a commitment from the 2020 class but they are in a superb position to land power forward Greg Brown. The 6-foot-9 power forward is arguably the best athlete in the entire class and is also straight out of Austin, TX.
This is a local prospect that the Longhorns absolutely need to secure a commitment from. Brown is ranked as the No. 8 overall recruit in the class and will be a dominant athlete at the collegiate level. He runs the floor at an impressive pace, boasts superb physical gifts, and finishes above the rim ridiculously well. Brown also uses his athleticism and instincts to be a shot-blocker and multipositional stopper. Brown might not be the most polished player in the class but his ceiling is perhaps the highest.
Brown averaged 18.7 points (.599/.160/.612), 8.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game in 17 contests with Texas Titans this summer. He should only improve over the next year before emerging as a collegiate star.
Texas currently holds all five crystal ball predictions for Brown and they need to finish the deal. Coach Smart has a strong reputation with sending frontcourt stars to the NBA and Brown should be the next in that list. Brown included Texas, Auburn, Kentucky, Memphis, and North Carolina in his final five. He is not expected to make a decision until the late signing period.
