Overview for 2019-20

The Spartans have an enormous amount of returning talent coming back to East Lansing and not only are they the favorites to win the Big Ten regular-season and tournament title again this season, but they are also the favorites to the national championship in 2020. Cassius Winston, Xavier Tillman, Aaron Henry, and a healthy Joshua Langford are a dynamic foursome and have that business-like mentality. The businessmen have already signed off of Twitter and other social media account until the season is over.

Kyle Ahrens, Gabe Brown, and Rocket Watts coming off of the bench makes this season’s team the deepest it has been in years. Regardless if Marcus Bingham Jr. ends up starting at center for the majority of the season or not, Thomas Kithier and Malik Hall can fill in on the frontcourt and make the Spartans have no glaring weaknesses for the season.

Head coach Tom Izzo has a great trio of senior leaders in Winston, Ahren and Langford which many coaches in America would love to have. Michigan State has an experienced versatile big man in Tillman, emerging scoring and potential defensive lockdown defender in Henry as well. The scary part for the rest of the nation is that talented guards in Brown and Watts can emerge as scoring machines making the Spartan transition offense almost unstoppable.

Yes, Michigan State has a very challenging non-conference schedule which will test them in November and December. Yes, the Spartans need Langford and Ahrens healthy to go through the tough Big Ten grind and win the Big Ten title once again. Finally, they just need to keep that business-like mentality and focus on winning a national title because that is indeed the ultimate goal.
