Rutgers – Geo Baker

Chances of winning POY – Slim to none

Rutger’s sports have not exactly been the model of college athletics lately, but the basketball team is trying to change that and it all starts with their top player Geo Baker. Baker helped lead Rutgers to seven Big Ten wins last year. That might not sound like much but when you are Rutgers that is a lot.

He is hoping that he can help them get even better this year and he has shown at times he is capable of doing that. The problem is that he lost the other top scorer in Eugene Omoruyi when he decided to transfer at the end of the year in a surprise move. That will hurt the Scarlet Knights and any chance Baker would have had to get any postseason honors.

Baker has proven to be a thorn in team’s sides, but he struggled at the end of last year scoring in single digits in the last four games for the Scarlet Knights. That included an 0-10, zero point game against Penn State.

He has the capability to light up the scoreboard but with the transfer of Omoruyi, opposing teams are going to key in on Baker and make life tough for him. Will he be able to score with such a big target on him, or will he regress as Rutgers slips back down to the basement of the Big Ten?
