Big 12 Basketball: Analyzing each program’s 2019 recruiting class
Oklahoma has been one of the best programs in the nation over the past several years. Under the leadership of head coach Lon Kruger, the Sooners have reached the NCAA Tournament in seven of the last eight years. They also have a Final Four appearance during this stretch. Looking ahead to the future, Oklahoma’s 2019 recruiting class looks poised to make a big-time difference. This group is ranked at No. 25 in the nation and they will join a few returning pieces this year to make yet another run at the postseason.
The most notable of these newcomers will be point guard De’Vion Harmon. As the No. 47 overall prospect in the class, there is plenty of buzz surrounding Harmon’s arrival in Norman. The Sooners had to wave goodbye to Christian James this offseason as one of their top guards and Harmon will be the heir to that spot in the starting lineup. He should team up with Kristian Doolittle, Brady Manek, and Austin Reaves to form a solid core for the Sooners this season.
The rest of this recruiting class will be competing for reserve minutes behind Oklahoma’s returners. Even though the Sooners seem relatively set on the wings already with returning prospects and arriving JUCO transfers, Jalen Hill (No. 138) is a prospect to keep an eye on. He is a solid incoming recruit that brings plenty of scoring to the table. Victor Iwuakor (No. 152) might also be used as a reserve in the frontcourt as a result of his size and physicality.
Anyang Garang (No. 425) and Rick Issanza (No. 495) round out the recruiting class as other potential options in the frontcourt.
