Expectations for 2019-20

Normally when doing previews or seeing conference projections DePaul takes their rightful place at the bottom of the conference. That does not appear to be the case this year. The Blue Demons have everyone’s attention as they attempt to climb out of the cellar of the Big East. The one issue with that is this could be the best the Big East has been in a long time.

The conference has three potential second-weekend teams with Villanova, Xavier and Seton Hall. Marquette, Butler, Creighton and Georgetown all appear to have the best teams they have had in quite some time as well. DePaul certainly has their work cut out for them in their ascent up the rankings.

While every fan wants their team to make the NCAA Tournament, and DePaul very well could this year. The NIT, especially for a program that is shooting for sustained success like the Blue Demons would be a huge step in the right direction for this program. It is unlikely that Weems and Jacobs both go pro so they are going to be building blocks for the seasons to come. If coach Leitao can get the Blue Demons to a post season tournament that may get the ball rolling on a new era of DePaul hoops.

DePaul has everything they need to succeed. They are in one of the biggest and most exciting cities in the United States and is the flagship school in Chicago. They are now starting to get the kids from Chicago to stay home and play for them. The city of Chicago has tremendous talent and DePaul is not going to have to go far to find quality talent. The hope now is that it consistently translates on the court.
