1. Wofford – SOCON

I know, many of you may find it crazy that I have Wofford at No. 1 given that they lost their Head Coach and almost their entire frontcourt. If you look aside from that, you will see that Wofford still has the best backcourt in the Southern Conference and in the state of South Carolina. Both Storm Murphy and Nathan Hoover are capable of shredding any team in the state.

Beyond Murphy and Hoover, the backcourt returns Tray Hollowell, Donovan Theme-Love, and Trevor Stumpe, all of whom were given good minutes and called upon quite a bit last season. To resolve some of the issues imposed by losing a very talented frontcourt, increased minutes for the highly athletic and electrifying forward, Chevez Goodwin, will be very important.

Wofford is also bringing in a great JUCO transfer in 7’1 center David Appelgren. Appelgren, a native of Sweden, was one of the most talented JUCO centers in America last season and he will be expected to step up to help Wofford be successful.

Despite losing Head Coach Mike Young to Virginia Tech, Wofford did the right thing by hiring Jay McAuley from within. I fully believe he will prove to be a great Head Coach.

Next. Teams that will exceed expectations for 2019-20. dark

Wofford’s athleticism and depth will still be a problem for plenty of schools Wofford will face in 2019-20. I really do not think any team in the state of South Carolina would be capable of contending with such a great backcourt.

For that, Wofford, once again, is the best team in the state of South Carolina.
