Season Outlook

Purdue had a very successful season last year winning a share of the Big Ten regular-season and coming up just short of the Final Four. But even with that, they were left disappointed because of the way the season ended.

They must now come back without the services of Carsen Edwards and Ryan Cline, but they could be even better.

The Boilermakers are deep even if they are a little inexperienced. But the pieces are there to be really good again. A tough non-conference schedule will test Purdue, but they are all winnable games. If they come into Big Ten play with just a couple losses or less they should be breaming with confidence.

Like we mentioned earlier the Spartans of Michigan State are loaded and are the unanimous favorite to win the Big Ten, but the Boilermakers are not ready to let go of their part of the title.

Matt Painter has done wonders while at Purdue and has made the Boilermakers a force, especially at home. If he can continue his magic he may have one of his best teams yet. It is not unrealistic to think that if this team can find its identity early that they could be one of the handful of teams ready to compete for a Final Four berth. They have a lot to prove first, but the talent is there.

Purdue should have lofty goals this year as they compete with Maryland and Ohio State for the right to be Michigan State’s biggest competitor. If Eastern can make the jump to superstar and Haarms can lock down the middle this team will be very good.
