How can Todd impact future recruiting?

Michigan is far from done in the 2020 recruiting class. Even though Coach Howard already has two top-75 commits, he is hungry to land more to build the talent pool for the future. The Wolverines have made significant inroads with a number of top prospects but now is the time to close. With Isaiah Todd on board, he can now be used as an extra recruiter on the staff. His presence as a five-star commit could draw others to pull the trigger on their announcements in the near future as well.

It is clear that Coach Howard has big-time potential on the recruiting trail and his very first class could be absolutely electric. It would not be a major shock if Todd turns out to be the first domino in a series of big-time commitments. I do not mean to underestimate Zeb Jackson by saying this, but Todd is the first to commit under Coach Howard (counting Franz Wagner as mostly a win by Beilein although Howard finished).

Michigan’s top remaining 2020 targets seem to be Joshua Christopher, Jaden Springer, Moses Moody, Jace Howard, Mark Williams, Hunter Dickinson, and Nimari Burnett. The Wolverines seem to be in relatively solid positions with each of them but the addition of Todd could improve their chances. Coach Howard now has a recent track record as a recruiter and can promise the opportunity to play with other top-rated players to his current targets.

While it is still possible that Todd elects to forgo his collegiate career and play overseas before the NBA, the likelihood of that occurring seems to be dropping. It appears as though Todd will be a Wolverine next year and it will be interesting to see who he will be able to convince to join him. Now that Todd has committed, he can essentially be an extension of the staff with regards to pushing other top-rated prospects to sign their letters of intent.

That concludes this look at Isaiah Todd’s commitment to Michigan and what it means for the program. Will Todd follow in the footsteps of Coach Howard and be the first domino to fall in a potential “Fab 5 Pt. 2”? We will find out over the next few months.
