Texas A&M Basketball: 2019-20 season preview for Aggies
Expect A&M to regress some in Williams’ first year
The schedule posts some challenges but the Aggies don’t leave College Station until Thanksgiving Day when they take part in the Orlando Invitational. They begin the season by hosting two schools from Louisiana, Northwestern State and Louisiana-Monroe, then comes the gem of their schedule, as old friend Gilder and Gonzaga come to town. They get three games in Orlando, an opening-round game with Ivy favorite Harvard and then Maryland or Temple.
As December begins, they travel for a neutral-site game with Texas and then finish the month with a three-game homestand that includes Oregon State and Texas Southern, which has a propensity of knocking off power-five schools. Finally, as a part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge, they take on an improved Oklahoma State team.
The Aggies have a solid foundation returning, but the depth of the SEC is going to pose a problem for them, as the rest of the conference is so strong. While they should have an improved season, it may take another year before Williams can get the team up the league standings. Given the team’s recent successes, the coaching change was made and Williams will have to work his magic in his old stomping grounds.
