NBA Draft 2020: 5 players in mix for top pick in newest mock draft
By Brian Rauf
Picks No. 11-14
11) Atlanta Hawks – Matthew Hurt, PF, Duke
Hurt doesn’t look like a one-and-done lottery pick, but the skilled big man would be a perfect fit in Atlanta’s perimeter-shooting-based rebuild. The 6-9, 214-pound stretch big is a knockdown three-point shooter, who can also handle the ball and attack the basket. He does have to answer questions about his athleticism, defense, and if he’s quick enough to play on the perimeter in the NBA, but his offensive skill set is too good to pass up on here.
12) Sacramento Kings – Precious Achiuwa, SF/PF, Memphis
Achiuwa is another one of those truly elite athletes and, at 6-9 and 215 pounds, that gives him all the potential in the world. rare athlete and has fantastic versatility as a quick 6-9, 215-pound combo forward. However, he’s still extremely raw. Achiuwa will be able to make an immediate impact defensively and in transition. If he develops a more refined offensive game, he has the potential to become a star.
13) Indiana Pacers – Nico Mannion, PG, Arizona
Indiana just paid Malcolm Brogdon a lot of money to be Victor Oladipo’s starting backcourt-mate, but he’s more of a two-guard than a true point. Backup Aaron Holiday is fine but unproven, and that could make Mannion a good fit. The Phoenix native can do it all. He has a consistent perimeter jumper, is an elite playmaker who doesn’t turn the ball over, and he can finish around the rim. Mannion is the kind of low maintenance, high-production player every team wants, even though his average NBA athleticism may cap his ceiling.
14) New Orleans Pelicans – Isaiah Stewart, C, Washington
The Pelicans have their backcourt set but could use more depth in the middle, where Zion Williamson, Derrick Favors, and Jaxson Hayes are their only real pieces. And, considering Favors will be a free agent after the season, they could use a little insurance inside. Stewart is perhaps the best rebounder in this class at 6-9 and 245 pounds, and he makes a significant impact defensively thanks to his athleticism and motor. His offensive game is still developing, but Stewart’s impact defensively and on the glass should make him a lottery pick.
