Projected Starting Guards

Devon Dotson: Guard, 6’2, 185 lbs, Sophomore

Dotson enters the 2019-20 season on a high note. He finished with 12.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg, and 3.5 apg. Dotson, 2nd leading scorer for the Jayhawks, will definitely be the go-to-guard for the Jayhawks. Looking to have a big year for the Jayhawks, expect Dotson to play more minutes and be more of a leader. The rising sophomore also shot 48.2% from the field last season, shooting 44.7% in conference play. He only shot 36.3% from 3 last year, so you may see Dotson trying to get to the rim. He was also 2nd on the team in FT% shooting 78.2%. Dotson is on the Preseason All-Big 12 team.

Being on the Preseason All-Big 12 team is a wonderful honor, but Dotson will have to draw out the noise and just focus on basketball. Looking to contend for a Big 12 title should be Dotson’s focus this season. Dotson has an amazing path currently and can really help the Jayhawks get to where they need to be.

Ochai Agbaji: Guard, 6’5, 210 lbs, Sophomore

Agbaji was a key player for the Jayhawks last season. He averaged 8.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, and almost one assist per game. He shot the ball well at 44.9% and 30.7% from 3. Agbaji was 5th on the team in scoring. He also shot 69.4% from the free throw line too, 4th on the team. Playing almost 26 minutes per game last year, Agbaji might have the same number of minutes or a little bit more with Dotson most likely leading the guards in minutes played.

Ochai has the potential to really blossom this year. With Dotson most likely running point, Agbaji can be another key scorer for Kansas. With some good forwards in the frontcourt, Agbaji can get open and knock down some key shots for the Jayhawks. He may not be an upperclassman, but I can see Agbaji turning people’s heads this year.
