ACC Basketball: Expectations for each program for 2019-20 season
By Hunter Moore
Miami
Miami is a team that has the talent to compete with a lot of teams in the ACC. The question marks for this team will their depth and the big man position. Miami brings in a transfer who sat out last year in Kameron McGusty, a grad transfer in Keith Stone and three highly talented freshmen. All three freshmen will likely be coming off the bench this season for the Hurricanes.
Miami brings in another transfer in Nysier Brooks from Cincinnati who could very easily change the outlook on this season if he receives a waiver to play immediately from the NCAA. Without Brooks, this team is on the tail end of the middle and likely a bubble team come march but with Brooks that adds depth and likely pushes this team further up the standings.
North Carolina
This UNC team loses a lot but also has a lot of key pieces both returning and coming in. The biggest key to this team will be how the freshman Cole Anthony and Armando Bacot transition from the prep ranks to the ACC. Another key for the Tarheels this season will be how Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce transition from mid-major basketball to high major basketball. This team has a very high ceiling that can make a long run in March if the newcomers (both freshman and grad transfers) can find their groove and play as one.
North Carolina State
An NC State team that will need at least one or two wins vs the top of the acc this year due to another lackluster schedule. A veteran-led team that will be competing for a top 4 seed in the acc. Right now they sit at the top to the middle of the ACC but all of this changes if Funderburk does not return from his indefinite suspension.
Junior point guard Blake Harris will not be part of this team as it was just recently announced that he is no longer with the team, so the guard rotation takes a slight dip but not too much as he was the 2nd or 3rd choice in the guard rotation at best. NC State should expect to be in the NCAA Tournament come March.
