SEC Basketball: Top 25 returning players for 2019-20 season
14. Nick Weathersoon | Mississippi State | G | Junior |
When Nick Weatherspoon is not suspended, he’s one of the best guards in the SEC. Unfortunately for Mississippi State, Weatherspoon will sit the first 10 games of the season for academic misconduct reasons. When he returns, they will be ready to be extremely threatening in SEC play.
Weatherspoon averaged 9.6 ppg a season ago while only being given about 28 minutes per contest. He shot 47.6% from the field and his ability to shoot the 3 greatly improved. Mississippi State lost quite a deal of talent from last year, so when it comes time for Weatherspoon to return, he is going to be the go-to guy in the backcourt. I honestly feel that he will come off of suspension with a chip on his shoulder and a willingness to show his opponents what he is capable of.
13. Savion Flagg | Texas A&M | Forward | Junior |
Savion Flagg has been overlooked by many followers of college basketball due to the fact that he plays for a Texas A&M team that was not too great last season. Let me tell you this, though. Flagg is one of the most versatile players in the league. At 6’7, 225 lbs., Flagg moves very well. He can play guard and he can be a destructive weapon near the basket.
As a sophomore last year, he averaged 13.9 ppg while also grabbing 7.7 rpg. With Buzz Williams now at the helm at Texas A&M he not only has a very reliable player in Flagg, but also a great leader that is ready to take the Aggies to new heights. Flagg will have lots of success in the SEC this season and he will give some of the better teams in the conference plenty of trouble.
