NCAA Basketball: Projecting the top 25 mid-major stars for 2019-20
20. Jordan Burns, Colgate
Guard | 6-foot-0 | 175 lbs | Junior
Another Patriot League contributor, Jordan Burns is one of the clear driving forces of the Colgate offense. In addition to leading the team in scoring, Burns is also the primary ball-handler and distributor. To put it simply, every single possession seemingly goes through him. Over the course of last season, the 6-foot-0 guard averaged 16.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
Furthermore, Burns was absolutely electric during the Patriot League Tournament last season. He played in three games at the event and was named MVP while carrying the Raiders to the automatic bid from the conference. He averaged 16.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists (to just 1.3 turnovers), and 2.0 steals per game during that stretch. He also then proceeded to continue his hot streak in the NCAA Tournament as Burns became a household name by dropping 32 points on eight made 3-pointers in a near-upset of No. 2 seed Tennessee in the first round.
Colgate is regarded as one of the favorites in the Patriot League this season and Burns is one of the main reasons why. He is a dangerous attacking guard with the ability to fill it up in a hurry and distribute to his teammates.
It is also important to mention that big man Rapolas Ivanauskas is also returning for the squad as an honorable mention for this list. Ivanauskas was Colgate’s best player last season while being named the Patriot League’s Player of the Year. I expect that Burns will take that throne this season now that he is an upperclassman but both players are exceptionally talented.
