Season Outlook

Like every Syracuse team in recent memory, there are a lot of question marks entering the season. SU lost two of its three reliable starters from a season ago but return Hughes, arguably its most consistent scorer.

Bringing in Goodine and Guerrier will provide easier transitions from the departure of Battle and Brissett, as the hype is building around the two incoming freshmen. Pair that with Carey’s expected step forward, and this Syracuse team may not regress like expected. In fact, they could be even better.

Unlike the Orange teams of years past, this roster has four reliable 3-point threats in Hughes, Goodine, Boeheim, and Girard III. With Guerrier and Marek Dolezaj able to stretch the floor, too, Syracuse’s offense has the potential to be drastically different.

It is expected that Syracuse will finish as a middle-of-the-pack ACC team that’ll compete with the best and take advantage of the bottom feeders of the conference. There’s a lot of raw talent on the floor that could ultimately all sync together at the right time, cueing a patented Cinderella-like Syracuse NCAA Tournament run. Or, SU could struggle to ever gain its footing and end another year on the bubble come March.

Expect Guerrier to live up to the potential first-round hype that he’s receiving in preseason, guiding Syracuse to an NCAA Tournament berth. Hughes will lead the team in scoring while Carey takes a huge step forward and becomes the explosive offensively gifted point guard he was expected to be. If those two and Goodine can come into their own this season, paired alongside the likes of Hughes and Dolezaj, this Syracuse team is a talented one and one that could make some noise against NCAA’s best.
