3) Who is Duke’s go-to guy?

Last year, Duke’s pecking order was pretty well established coming into the season despite having that superstar trio of freshmen. R.J. Barrett was the leader and main offensive threat, followed by Zion Williamson and Cam Reddish, respectively. Many were (understandably) frustrated that Williamson never seemed to move to No. 1 on that list until the very end of the season, but they knew who they were.

This Duke team doesn’t appear to have that luxury.

Jones is the returning star running the point. Will the Blue Devils rely on him shoulder much more of the offensive load.

Carey is the highest-rated player in the freshman class. Will Duke utilize his skills in the post and run most of their offensive through him, à la what they did in 2014-15 with Jahlil Okafor?

Hurt might be the most offensively gifted player on the roster but isn’t necessarily known as a playmaker. Do they try to us utilize his versatility by putting him in that role?

Or will one of their four-star wings in Moore or Stanley prove they’re worthy of being that guy?

Most teams start their seasons with a few easier opponents as they try to figure out this order. It may take a month or two for other teams to settle into an offensive rhythm, while others use the whoever-has-the-hot-hand strategy.

The Blue Devils typically play through their top options, so establishing that pecking order will likely be key to their offensive efficiency. Opening the season with a team like Kansas should speed up the process of figuring that out.
