Michigan State vs. Kentucky: 5 questions for 2019 Champions Classic game
By Joe Chambers
3. Is Michigan State going to benefit from Rocket Watts Jr.?
Rocket Watts Jr. is a freshman from Detroit, Michigan. Listed at 6’2, Watts Jr. looks to benefit early for the Spartans. Watts Jr. only scored four points in 21 minutes of play for the Spartans in their exhibition game against Albion. He shot 2-7 from the field and went 0-5 from 3.
Watts Jr. is going to need to help Winston in the backcourt. Winston is going to get double-teamed a lot this year due to his high caliber of play, so Watts Jr. will need to be able to get open and help run point if Winston is out of the game catching a breather. The Wildcats produce a lot of good guard play, so Watts Jr. will have a challenge from the beginning to be able to keep up with the Wildcats offense and defense.
Tom Izzo does a great job developing guards. For Watts Jr., this is good for him to develop his game and learn from the best to figure out how to breakdown the Wildcats defense and secure a W in this highly-anticipated first match-up of the season for both teams.
