1. Limit turnovers

Under John Beilein, the Wolverines were one of the best teams in the country at not turning the ball over. They didn’t foul and they didn’t turn the ball over and it allowed them to control the pace of the game and maximize their possessions.

The leader of that the past couple of years has been Zavier Simpson. He just didn’t turn the ball over much if at all. He was one of the best ball handlers in the conference and best passers also. But more importantly, he took care of the ball.

On Tuesday against Appalachian State, it was an unusual sight as the Wolverines turned the ball over 17 times and Simpson had six of them by himself. Isaiah LIvers added five himself and the Wolverines looked very sloppy at times.

With the scoring they lost and until they get a full grasp of Howard’s offense in a game they need to limit their mistakes. Turnovers are going to happen but they need to get back to the Michigan that has played the past few years. It is only one game but it can’t be a trend for the Wolverines or they are going to have a tough year.

The good news is that they were able to battle through that in the first game, but against better teams, it could be the difference in winning a game and losing one. Limit the turnovers against Creighton and it should put them in great shape to win the game.
