3. Texas A&M and Buzz Williams can make some noise

Buzz Williams is one of several new hires in the SEC from this offseason. He’s looking to turn Texas A&M Basketball into a consistent national program that goes to the NCAA Tournament on a regular basis. But it can be hard to do that at a football school without much fanfare. A question was asked to Coach Williams on how to increase fans presence at games:

While he may not want to go knocking at doors at the school, Coach Williams has a way to gather them all at once for future games. And that’s simply beating a top-10 team like Gonzaga. It’s the only real opportunity at a massive home victory this season since neither Florida or Kentucky are coming to College Station due to scheduling.

It might be too much pressure early on for Texas A&M to win this kind of game, considering that Starks isn’t playing and that the Aggies don’t have the inside presence to compete with top-10 teams. But that Evansville upset over Kentucky shows what can happen if things happen on any given night.

Alabama and Vanderbilt have already suffered upset losses, while Arkansas hasn’t played anyone of note yet. The SEC is going to be an arms race on the recruiting front and any advantage a coach can get can be huge these days. Beating No. 8 Gonzaga can give Williams and the Aggies the edge going forward. But they’ll need to get the win first.
