NCAA Basketball: 2019 Charleston Classic preview and predictions
By Cody Gerena
Predictions
For the quarterfinals I expect Florida to dominate St Joseph’s 80-60 by playing their best basketball all season while St Joseph’s who is near the bottom in three-pointers allowed will give Florida their best game from behind the line this season, Miami to beat Missouri State 70-60 to move onto the next round, Xavier to beat Towson 77-63, and finally UConn to edge out Buffalo 75-72 to make it to the next round to face Xavier.
The consolation semifinals will have St Joseph’s beating Missouri State 75-69, and Buffalo beating Towson 81-72. From there the 5th place game will have Buffalo destroy St. Joseph’s 85-65, and the seventh-place game will have Missouri State beat Towson 70-65
The championship semifinals are where the most likely upsets will occur, my money is on Miami upsetting Florida 73-62 but Xavier will take care of UConn 65-60 to make the finals.
The third-place game of the Florida-UConn rematch will be won by UConn again 67-62 and the championship game of Miami-Xavier will be won by Xavier 77-70.
Final Standings/Placements
1) Xavier Musketeers
2) Miami Hurricanes
3) UConn Huskies
4) Florida Gators
5) Buffalo Bulls
6) St. Joseph’s Red Hawks
7) Missouri State Bears
8) Towson Tigers
In conclusion, the Xavier Musketeers will leave Charleston with the championship and the Charleston Classic MVP will be Naji Marshall who’ll lead the Musketeers in scoring throughout the tournament.
