Bracket B

Jacksonville State (1-3)

Jacksonville State made the CBI semifinals two years ago and won 24 games a year ago, and although they are just 1-3 before heading off to the Sunshine State, they have the elements to continue that trend. So far this season the Gamecocks have been led heavily by De’Torrion Ware, Jacara Cross, and Kayne Henry who have averaged 30.9 points and 14.6 rebounds, but the guy that has done a little bit of everything for the Jacksonville State is senior guard Ty Hudson who has put up a stat line of 6.8,3.3, and a team-leading 1.8 assists this year.

Chattanooga (3-3)

Chattanooga has lost two straight on the back of a three-game winning streak, but those two losses were to Florida State and Tennessee. The Mocs are led by two guards, junior David Jean-Baptiste leads the team in scoring with 15.2 points while grabbing 3.7 rebounds. His backcourt mate, senior Matt Ryan has added 14.3 points and four rebounds of his own. The Mocs also have an interesting frontcourt duo with juniors Rod Johnson and Ramon Vila who have combined for 17.1 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists this year.

Alabama State (0-5)

Alabama State is winless but the competition was tough, the Hornets have played Gonzaga, Missouri State, Houston, Tennessee and VCU all on the road. Alabama State won’t play a home game until January 11th when they play Mississippi Valley State. Senior Tobi Ewuosho leads the team in both scoring (15.2) and rebounding (5.2). The Hornets have struggled offensively, averaging just 54.6 per game and Ewuosho has scored twice as many points as the team’s 2nd leading scorer (6.2).

Chicago State (3-4)

Chicago State has won a total of 12 games in the last three seasons and it will probably be more of the same for head coach Lance Irvin. Their three wins have come against non-Division I competition and their four losses have come by an average of 44 points. Juniors Xavier Johnson and Andrew Lewis have combined to average nearly half of the Cougars’ 70.7 points, with 30, and those two along with Jace Colley have made 94 of the team’s field goals on the year.
