Michigan was the most impressive team during Feast Week as they knocked off Iowa State, North Carolina, and Gonzaga on their way to winning the Battle 4 Atlantis title. They dominated the two top 10 teams they faced in the Tar Heels and Bulldogs, too, leading by at least 20 points in the second half against each.
The conductor of their attack was senior point guard Zavier Simpson, who is the epitome of a true point guard that makes everyone around him better.
Simpson’s stat line isn’t particularly overwhelming (12.3 ppg, 9.7 apg, 4.7 rpg) but he plays phenomenal defense has had several signature performances including a 13-point, 13-assist outing against Gonzaga.
The senior guard has recorded at least 13 assists in three of his last four games and has demonstrated that he’s one of the sport’s best passers, a skill new head coach Juwan Howard is utilizing in the pick-and-roll.
Simpson still isn’t a scorer but he has been incredibly efficient, shooting 59.3 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from three. Because he won’t have the scoring numbers, Simpson needs Michigan to keep winning for his stock to go up.
