Charlie Moore may be the best impact transfer player

Chicago-native Charlie Moore transferred to DePaul following an extremely disappointing season as a backup point guard at Kansas. He wanted to be closer to home and DePaul roster makeup gave him an opportunity to come in and be the lead guard for head coach Dave Leitao, and nights like Wednesday show what he can do when handed the keys to the offense.

Despite an absolutely dreadful shooting night, Moore was able to become a massive part of the reason DePaul won Wednesday night’s game. His passing, defense and overall effort helped set the tone for the Blue Demons against Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders’ defense was able to hold Moore to 2-for-15 shooting from the field but the standout junior collected 10 assists and (only) 3 turnovers on the night. What was important outside of the playmaking was this: Moore finished with creativity at the rim.

Being able to attack the rim with creativity and greater success—namely contorting a small frame around the large trees that are NBA rim protectors—is something that will be a HUGE factor in Moore improving his shooting at the rim this season and ultimately, his game translating to the NBA level.

Moore finished the night with six points, five rebounds, 10 assists, a block, and five steals, including the game-saving steal to send it to OT. And in OT, Moore got an assist on the 3-pointer by Coleman-Lands to put the Blue Demons up for good. After a missed 3-pointer from Chicago-native and Texas Tech wing Terrence Shannon Jr., Moore got the ensuing defensive rebound and sank two free throws to seal the victory for DePaul.

Simply put, Charlie Moore makes winning plays.
