3. It’s time to talk about a No. 1 seed.

It might only be mid-December, but Gonzaga has already started to make its case for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament once again. Through the opening month of the season, the Bulldogs have already dominated the top of the Pac-12 with victories over Oregon, Washington, and Arizona en route to an 11-1 record. Additionally, considering Gonzaga’s lone loss thus far came against a nationally-ranked Michigan squad, the resume looks flat-out elite right now. There are only a few teams in the country that can compete with what head coach Mark Few’s squad has put together so far.

With that said, Gonzaga should already be the favorite to land the No. 1 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament moving forward. Even in a more challenging version of the WCC this season, the Bulldogs should be able to roll through the league without too many stumbles. With three more non-conference games remaining (including a home matchup against North Carolina) followed by the entire conference schedule and tournament, it is reasonable to think that Gonzaga could enter Selection Sunday with ~30 total wins.

If that is the case, Gonzaga should land the No. 1 seed in the West Region with relative ease. The Bulldogs already hold five non-conference wins away from home with three of those coming over teams ranked in the KenPom top-50 (and Washington should continue to rise moving forward). This win over Arizona was just another strong step for Gonzaga’s resume and solidified the idea that Coach Few’s team is the favorite for the No. 1 seed.

That concludes this look at my takeaways from Gonzaga’s road victory over the Arizona Wildcats. This was yet another strong performance by the Bulldogs as they are looking the part of a national title contender. This team might not boast one elite-level star but the sum of very talented parts under a superb head coach makes them very dangerous.
