Dayton Basketball: 2019-20 keys for Fylers to beat Colorado Buffaloes

2. Hold the Colorado backcourt in check
The majority of Colorado’s scoring comes from their prolific backcourt trio of McKinley Wight IV, Tyler Bey, and D’Shawn Schwartz. The trio combines to score 34.0 points per game, which is over half of Colorado’s 67.3 nightly average.
Wright came into the season as the expected star, and although he has been really good (11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals), Bey has been even more effective. Bey leads the team in points and rebounds, averaging a double-double (12.6 points and 10.4 rebounds) per game. He also adds 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks (both team highs) as a stout defensive playmaker.
Throw in Schwartz (10.1) points on nearly 43 percent shooting from three-point range and you have a strong perimeter of playmakers. The trio has all three scored in less than double-figures only twice on the season – in the loss to Kansas and in a low-scoring win over Colorado State where Bey and Schwartz were each one basket away from double-digits and Shane Gatling had a season-high 20 points off the bench. In other words, if you can shut down the three of them, most likely you are going to win the game.
