A Top Seed in The NCAA Tournament

As has been said many times, the Bulldogs are ranked number one in the country currently. They have a team and a schedule that should break the streak of the No. 1 team getting beat. If Gonzaga does get beat this week while they are number one, I will truly believe that the number one ranking is cursed this year. If everything goes according to play for Gonzaga they will be in line for the overall number one seed in the NCAA tournament.

The overall number one seed would be big for Gonzaga. This was the one season that the roster didn’t appear that overwhelming, the West Coast conference looked to be much stronger with the thought of BYU and Saint Mary’s vying for a tournament bid and teams like Pepperdine and San Francisco being much improved. The league was supposed to be deeper, and so far, it has shown that is true the conference is deeper. Gonzaga has also shown this could be the best team they have ever assembled in Spokane.

If the Zags were to get the overall number one seed in the tournament they would be out West and would not have to travel to far to their destinations for any of their games. They should also be blessed with the “easiest” bracket. I don’t believe the easiest bracket exists. It’s the NCAA tournament every team is there for a reason, so there are no easy games. Virginia can tell you that.

The way this roster is assembled and with Killian Tillie finally healthy the emergence of Joel Ayayi and Filip Petrusev getting better Gonzaga has the makings of another team poised to make a deep run in March. They are battle tested and are going to be ready for whatever comes their way in March.
