3. Come out with a purpose.

Butler is definitely the better team in this matchup and it also boasts home-court advantage. But, with the Big East schedule looming, a letdown performance could be on the horizon. The Dawgs have done an incredible job maintaining a “one game at a time” mentality and that will need to continue. This matchup represents Butler’s last “tune-up” game prior to the gauntlet that will be conference play and the team will need to avoid what would be a major slip-up.

A loss to Louisiana Monroe would not completely wipe away Butler’s entire hot start to this season but it would leave a sour taste in many mouths. In order to avoid an upset, the Dawgs will need to come out with the purpose of taking care of business once again. Butler has proven time and time again that it belongs among the best teams in the entire nation but that just feeds the hunger of its opponents moving forward.

On the whole, Butler’s experience and leadership make the team very easy to believe in moving forward. The Dawgs do not rely on elite shooting or underclassmen to provide major impacts in each game in order to take victories. They are well-balanced around a superstar senior leader and have the ability to win with either their offense or their defense.

It is reasonable to expect that Butler will win this game by 20+ points but the team has to enter the contest with the same mentality that it has before every other game. Head coach LaVall Jordan has preached throughout this season that his team is yet to play a “full 40” and that will be the goal in this game (and every other for the rest of the year).

Butler sees every single game as a new opportunity to prove itself. This matchup with Louisiana Monroe should be no different.
