Andrew Smith (2010-2013)

An energy forward with great leadership skills, Andrew Smith made an immediate and lasting impact on the Butler program. That much was evident during his freshman campaign when he called on to play big minutes in the 2010 Elite Eight when Matt Howard was forced to sit due to foul trouble. Despite not having played much in the prior games, Smith supplied 12 solid minutes in the contest to push the team over Kansas State and into the Final Four. That was then the springboard for him as he emerged as the full-time starting center for the program over the next three seasons.

The Bulldogs returned to the Final Four during Smith’s sophomore season in which he averaged 8.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He then went on to average in double-figures as a scorer in each of his final two seasons in Indianapolis to go down as one of the most productive and accomplished players in program history. “Moose” was named a Second Team Academic All-American in 2013 and finished his career with over 100 total wins.

Although Smith died of leukemia in 2016, his memory lives on through Project 44. To read more about the program and “Be The Match”, please see here.

Kameron Woods (2012-2015)

Arguably the program’s best rebounder of this past decade, Kameron Woods dominated on the glass over his four seasons. A 6-foot-9 anchor in the paint, Woods only became a full-time starter over his final two years but averaged 9+ boards per game and led the Big East in rebounds in each of those campaigns. He might never have been an offensive star with Butler but had a knack for seeking out loose balls and also led the team in total blocks in all four years with the team.

Woods finished his career as Butler’s second all-time leading rebounder and was a consistent presence in the frontcourt. He also played in all three conferences during this decade. His contributions might not have received a ton of attention because he was never a major scorer but he was as important as anyone on a pair of NCAA Tournament teams.

That concludes this look at the Butler Basketball’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s. It was a spectacular set of seasons for the program and hopefully the 2020s bring just as much success.
